The Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coin was released by the United States Mint on March 5, 2009. This represented the first release for 2009 and the ninth release overall for the series created to honor the President’s spouses.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Anna Harrison. She was the First Lady for thirty days in 1831 during the short Presidency of her husband William Henry Harrison. The obverse inscriptions include “Anna Harrison”, “In God We Trust”, “Liberty”, the order of the Presidency “9th”, the year of the Presidential term “1841″, and the mintage date “2009″. The obverse was designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Joseph Menna.
The reverse of the coin features a scene of Anna Harrison teaching children. She educated her own children and started two schools with her husband in Indiana and Ohio. The reverse inscriptions include “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, the denomination “$10″, the gold content “1/2 oz.”, and the gold purity “.9999 Fine Gold”. The reverse of the coin was designed by Thomas Cleveland and sculpted by Charles Vickers.
Anna Harrison First Spouse Coins were available in both proof and unciruclated finishes with a maximum mintage of 40,000 coins across both options. The coins were initially price at $629.00 for the proof version and $614 for the uncirculated. Prices were subsequently adjusted on numerous occasions in response to changes in the price of gold.
The last reported US Mint sales for the Anna Harrison coins were 6,250 proofs and 3,537 uncirculated coins. Sales of the coins ended on March 18, 2010.
